One more chance for young science journalists and researchers to meet!

RELATE new application campaign is open once again until the 30th of June. The EU-funded project offers young journalists interested in science topics opportunities to spend one week in a top research centre in Europe.

1 May 2010 - 30 June 2010

REsearch LAbs for TEaching Journalists is an EU-funded project that aims to bridge the gap between science and society.
The initiative, that until now has involved about 50 European journalists and 20 laboratories, is ready to its 3rd round.

The project brings scientists face to face with next generation journalists, who will then ‘relate’ their experiences, producing valuable scientific articles and communication material ready to be distributed to media outlets, mainly broadcasters, radio stations and online or paper based publications for the benefits of research.
The young journalists will produce short video production, radio podcast, articles addressed to the general public. They will ‘make sense of science’, while remaining true to principles of good journalism.

The selected journalists will:
1- be sent on a week-long visit with other European students, with a reimbursement of expenses (up to 1.000,00 €, depending on location).
2- work as real science journalists: attending press conferences, interviewing researchers or filming lab work, with a view to produce unique communication material ready to be distributed.
3- be advised and supported by RELATE partners on the ways on pitching their work to newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, etc.

Research laboratories participating will:
1. Give availability to host a couple of students in their lab for a full week, without extra costs
2. Experience the contact with young, dynamic and enthusiastic journalists eager to understand and to communicate about their research
3. Establish media relations at European level that could last forever and widely boost laboratories research visibility

Interested journalism students, are invited to submit their application form, available on the website http://relateproject.eu(opens in new window) together with a cv (please, read carefully the Rules of Application, before applying).
The screening of applications received will be conducted in July and August; selected participants will be informed in September.

Research centres benefiting already from the participation in a FP project and willing to take part in the action are welcome to contact the coordinator for further details and conditions.
