It is not too late to register for the SISTER final project conference. An extremely interesting and relevant programme is on offer for all professionals working in the information technology, transport and satellite communication domains.
Our 2 key note presentations set the theme of the conference;
Mike Sena Vice President European Development, Hughes Telematics, Inc. is an internationally recognised expert in telematics, digital map databases, location-based services and navigation, and has been actively involved in bringing satellite digital radio to Europe. Since November 2008 he is responsible for the expansion of Hughes Telematics systems and services into Europe.
Andre Vites former head of unit at the European Commission studied electromechanical engineering and holds a PhD in Applied Sciences from the University of Leuven, where he became a lecturer on Traffic Control and Transport Management. In 1988 he joined the European Commission for the launch of the DRIVE 1 and DRIVE 2 RTD programmes. He has been Head of Unit and in charge of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for Transport in Directorate-General Information Society and Media, before taking retirement in 2009. In November 2009 he received the eSafety Lifetime achievement Award 2009.

17:00 S-band status
In May 2009, Inmarsat and Solaris mobile (a joint venture between Eutelsat and Astra) were awarded each a 2×15MHz portion of the S band by the European Commission. The two companies are allowed two years to start to provide paneuropean MSS services for 18 years, hear the latest status of S-Band in Europe.

SafeTRIP is a new European project launched in October 2009 and will last 3 years. SafeTRIP project’s general objective is to improve the use of road transport infrastructures and to optimise the alert chain in case of incidents by offering an integrated system from data collection to safety service provision.

11:30 Relevance of an MVNO to Sister and Satcoms in ITS.
The possibility of combining the advantages of both satcoms and mobile to provide new and innovative services may provide a means of commercialising SISTER developments. With the emergence of mobile virtual network operators as a major telecoms growth sector, the opportunities for their use in ITS should be explored.
