The ESSEN SECURTY INNOVATION SYMPOSIUM, taking place in the context of the SECURITY ESSEN International Lead Fair from 4-6 October 2010, is offering a multifaceted platform for civil-security related presentation and discussion, including relevant safety aspects. The Symposium will reunite experts from policy, business, industry and research in the city of Essen/Germany, the Cultural Capital of Europe 2010. The Symposium will in particular enquire needs for security innovation at the interface between social and cultural systems. Security being a public good affecting societies as a whole, it is becoming increasingly clear that the public and private sector must follow similar goals in order to protect people and infrastructure. The Symposium therefore aims to create networks of different stakeholders and experts as well as to make new concepts and insights relevant for civil security accessible to interested communities including the public. The Symposium will establish itself as a venue for exchange of knowledge and experience between different world of experience and contexts of usage of security-related products. It will feature keynotes, panels and working groups and be directed towards and international audience.

The ESSEN SECURITY INNOVATION SYMPOSIUM is making a strong contribution to a better understanding of the steps necessary for converting research into potential for innovation. The emphasis is on the European dimension, particularly in respect to the security theme within the EU 7th Framework Programme. The Symposium will include a security research information day with the participation of the Research Execution Agency (REA), where the new call for proposals for security research projects in the EU 7th Framework Programme will be presented and tailored information for submission of research proposals from industry and research given. It will also facilitate networking between potential applicants. Moreover, it will be discussed how security research can best provide concrete results for end-users from industry and economy, and integrate end-user needs in ongoing and future projects.

The ESSEN SECURITY INNOVATION SYMPOSIUM accompanying the SECURITY ESSEN International Lead Fair is realised by the European Security Conference InitiatiIe (ESCI), the symposium platform of the CEUSS | Center for European Security Studies at Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna Paris. ESCI has been organising international security conferences since five years, based on latest insight but clearly practically oriented. The focus is on assembling expert knowledge from different segments of the security sector, policy and think tanks, thus identifying need for action from a pluralistic perspective.
