DEAN and EU-DRIVERS Conferences

DEAN 2010 Annual Conference
Barcelona, 15-16 November 2010
Out of the crisis into the sustainable recovery? Maintaining quality at a time of constrained resources

EU-DRIVERS Annual Conference
Barcelona, 17 November
Universities leading regional innovations: New partnerships at a time of economic crisis

15 November 2010 - 17 November 2010
Spain
HEIs are affected heavily by the economic recession, its social consequences, and cuts in public expenditure. Yet at the same time they have to deal with a highly diverse student population and deliver excellence in research and education. In an increasingly competitive environment they are called upon to take the lead in contributing to the challenges of the Knowledge society and to the EU2020 Strategy for a sustainable greener economy and a more inclusive society in a context of global financial crisis.

How to tackle these challenges? ESMU-DEAN invites you to join the debate during our two conferences in Barcelona from 15 to 17 November 2010.

Addressing the financial crisis constitutes a major challenge for HEIs. Ways forward will have to include developing strategic partnerships for regional development, building on strengths for strategic profiling and reforming internal governance to turn universities in more responsive institutions to external demands.

The DEAN Conference (15-16 November) will address the following theme : "Out of the crisis into sustainable recovery? Maintaining quality in a time of constrained resources". DEAN is a European network of deans of faculties and academic leaders of ESMU, the European centre for Strategic Management of Universities.

The EU-DRIVERS conference (17 November) "Universities leading regional innovation: New partnerships at a time of economic crisis" tackles the issue through a different angle, focusing on the perspective of regional innovation and regional partnerships between triple helix actors. EU-DRIVERS is a three-year EU-funded structural project in the EU Lifelong Learning Programme.
