Conference in French: Loop quantum gravity: atoms of space to black holes by Simone SPEZIALE

Simone SPEZIALE is 'Chargé de Recherche' (CR1) CNRS, at the 'Groupe de Gravité quantique', Theoretical Physics Center at CNRS-Luminy, Marseille, France

13 April 2015 - 13 April 2015
France
Place : Maison de l'AX, 5 rue Descartes, F-75005 Paris, France
Date : April 13, 2015
Time : 17:00

Summary :
Loop quantum gravity proposes a quantum mechanical treatment of general relativity where spacetime itself is built out of Planck-sized quanta of geometry, interacting among themselves following probabilistic laws. In this talk for non-experts, I will present the basic ideas of the theory, the main results and open questions, and some recent applications to black hole physics, which in particular encourage the study of black holes without singularities.
