EUROSCIENCE's Rammal Award distinguishes a Turkish physicist and a Mediterranean Foundation

The EUROSCIENCE's Rammal Medal for 2009 has been delivred to the Turkish physicist Ayze Erzan and to the Foundation René Touraine.

On July 5th, during the biennial Euroscience Forum ESOF 2010, Pr. Jean-Patrick Connerade, President of the panel of the Rammal Award, delivered the medals to the two laureates distinguished for the year 2009.

Pr. Ayze Erzan, 60, is presently working at the Istanbul Technical University. A leading specialist in complex and critical systems, she collaborates with several groups in the Mediterranean area and is very active in the domain of human rights and ethics. She is notably a member of the Academy of Sciences for the developing world.

The Fondation René Touraine has been created in 1991 by Pr. Louis Dubertret, presently at the Hôpital Saint Louis in Paris. Since its creation, the Foundation works to screen for and cure genetic skin diseases in Mediterranean countries. It has also greatly contributed to the training of young physicians from thoses countries.

During the same ceremony, Pr. Connerade also delivered the medal to the former laureate 2008, Pr. Moulay Brahim Sedra, a physicist from Morocco.
