Academia Europaea recognise emerging Belgian research talents

At the 22nd Annual conference of the Academia Europaea to be held at Unversity of Leuven: The President will present the 2010 Burgen Scholarships to up to Ten 'Early Stage' Researchers based in Belgium

The Burgen Scholarships, are named in honour of the founding President – Professor Arnold Burgen FRS MAE (Honorary Life President).

They provide recognition to younger European scholars, at the post-doctoral level, who are emerging talents and potential future leaders in their field. Recipients may or may not yet have an established position.

The nomination of candidates is a task given to the members of the Academia resident in the country that is hosting the annual meeting. The list of 2010 Burgen Scholars includes:

Bert De Smedt (KU Leuven – Psychology and Pedagogy)

Massimiliano Mazzone (KU Leuven – Cell Science, Molecular Oncology)

Milorad Milošević (U Antwerp - Nanoscale Superconductivity and Magnetism)

Yaël Nazé (U Liege – Astrophysics)

Pierre Sonveaux (UC Louvain – Pharmacology)

Wim Van Dooren (KU Leuven – Educational Sciences)

Laurence WUIDAR (UL Bruxelles – Musicology)

Daria Tunca (U Liege – Literature)
