"American & European best practices in transfer of science and technology" is the title of a course in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on 27 and 28 May 1999.

European science policy makers show a growing awareness of the economic impact of public research, according to the course organizer, The Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM). The AUTM will present its expertise in this matter for the third time in Europe. The faculty of AUTM will introduce and chair every session in which mainly European case studies will be demonstrated and discussed. The parallel sessions will cover:

- Academic spin-offs;
- Patenting & licensing;
- Using the internet for technology transfer;
- Public-private research programs;
- Conflict of interest;
- Managing a technology transfer office.

Hendrik Tent, Deputy Director General for Science, Research and Development, European Commission (EC), DG XII, will speak during the opening session. Representatives from the EC, DG XIII, and other organisations will also make contributions.
