Workshop on Implications of climate change held in Brussels - Belgium
The workshop will investigate innovation policy challenges from mega-trends that will disrupt the economy of the European Union over the next few decades: climate change, resource scarcity and demographic developments.
These ‘mega trends’ are connected. On a global scale, the rapid growth of affluent populations in Asia and Latin America will increase demand for energy, clean water, agricultural products, forestry products, and minerals. At the same time, increasing climatic variability will make it more difficult to provide clean water and essential natural resources such as food, feed and fibre. To avoid these problems, European innovation policy will need to focus on the development and implementation of a variety of solutions to climate change and resource scarcity.
In addition, the ageing of the European population has raised concerns that the innovative capacity of Europe could decline, reducing the competitiveness of European firms and the capability of Europe to address the challenges of climate change.
The workshop outlines the challenges created by these trends and discusses their implications for innovation policy. By participating, you will have the opportunity to exchange opinions and experiences and to suggest directions for practical innovation policy in the future.
The workshop is free of charge, but interested stakeholders are required to register with full name and contact details by email to "assistant@greenovate.eu" by 16th November 2010. Since places are limited, we advise to register earlier. For more information: http://www.proinno-europe.eu(opens in new window)
