UKRO Annual Conference 2011 in Newcastle, UK

Registration has opened for the 2011 UKRO Annual Conference, which is taking place at Newcastle Civic Centre on 7-8 July 2011.

7 July 2011 - 8 July 2011
Austria
UKRO is pleased to announce that registration for the 2011 Annual Conference, which will take place at the Newcastle Civic Centre on 7 – 8 July, is now open. Interested parties should note that the Conference is aimed at European research managers and administrators and policy makers.

In the context of the current consultation on the proposed Common Strategic Framework for Research and Innovation, sessions will look forwards, with updates on 'Future EU Research and Innovation Programming' and the 'Innovation Union' flagship initiative. Other sessions will look at new and future policy and implementation issues relating to the Marie Curie Actions and European Research Council (ERC) schemes, and at specific areas of FP7 Capacities and Co-operation programmes including Research for the Benefit of SMEs, the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) strand of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) theme, and Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH). The programme will also cover opportunities within the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) and the development of the new Strategic Innovation Agenda from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), as well as providing an update on Commission work on research careers in Europe. The conference will close with a session on UK engagement with both current and future EU research and innovation programmes.

As part of the two-day Conference, a drinks reception is being hosted by the University of Newcastle on the evening of 7 July. This will be followed immediately by the Conference dinner.

As with previous Conferences, the programme includes a lot of networking opportunities and throughout the event delegates will have the chance to meet Commission speakers and counterparts from research institutions across the UK and beyond.

UKRO would recommend booking as soon as possible to guarantee a place, as these will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a special early-bird offer rate for bookings made before the 20 May 2011.

The Civic Centre is in central Newcastle. Delegates will need to arrange their own accommodation for the 2011 Conference. To assist with this, a number of rooms have been held in a range of central hotels. Delegates can use the accommodation booking service that has been set up for the Conference to reserve and hold rooms of their choice.

The Conference website contains full details, including the provisional Conference programme, booking and travel information and the accommodation booking service.

We hope that you can join us in Newcastle and look forward to seeing you there.
