International Summer Course on Medical Imaging using Bio-inspired (BC) and Soft Computing (SC)

The ECSC coordinates the 7FP Marie Curie Initial Training Network "Medical Imaging using Bio-inspired and Soft Computing". Within this training programme a first technical course is organized in July. It is focused on SC and BC-based intelligent system design to solve real-world MI problems.

4 July 2011 - 8 July 2011
Austria

The European Centre for Soft Computing (ECSC) is a research centre on Artificial Intelligence located in Asturias (Spain). The ECSC coordinates the 7FP Marie Curie Initial Training Network "Medical Imaging using Bio-inspired and Soft Computing" .

This network aims to create a multidisciplinary training programme where 16 enrolled early-stage researchers (ESRs) are exposed to a wide variety of Bio-Inspired (BC) and Soft Computing (SC) techniques, and to the challenge of applying them in the development of flexible application-oriented solutions to current Medical Imaging (MI) problems.

The MIBISOC partnership consists of world-wide recognized researchers from 8 scientific institutions (ECSC, Ghent University, Université Libre de Bruxelles, University of Nottingham, Università degli Studi di Parma, University of Granada, Henesis, Universitätsklinikum Freiburg), and 4 high quality technical partners (General Electrics Healthcare, CNRS, Hospital Central de Asturias, Treelogic).

Within this training programme a first technical course is organized in July . It is focused on SC and BC-based intelligent system design to solve real-world MI problems. A detailed summary of real-world applications will be taught by outstanding experts, including topics such as image reconstruction in MI modalities, filtering and processing of medical images, segmentation and feature extraction in MI, range and multimodal image registration.

It will be held in the facilities of the European Centre for Soft Computing in Mieres, Spain, in July 4-8th, 2011.

Syllabus for this first technical course:

1.Introduction: SC-BC capabilities in MI.
2.BC-SC techniques for MI classification.
3.BC-SC techniques for MI restoration.
4.BC-SC approaches to MI segmentation.
5.BC-SC in MI registration.

Application:

Master Students, Ph. D. students, Post-Docs, both senior and young researchers, and academic/industrial professionals are encouraged to register. We also particularly encourage women to attend to the course. There are 16 vacancies available, and the selected applicants will receive a grant to support the travel and accommodation expenses. Should you be interested in some of these 16 vacancies, send your CV to registration@mibisoc-itn.eu before May the 31st. The selected applicants will be notificied in June.

Accommodation:

The course will take place in Mieres (Asturias), a small town located in the North of Spain, in a former mining area. It will be held at the facilities of the European Centre for Soft Computing, sited in the Pozo Barredo Research Building of the University of Oviedo.
