Synchronizing EU-LatAm research on ICT

Latin-American RTD funding agencies are meeting for the first time together in an international symposium to discuss challenges and opportunities of a coordinated strategy for EU-LA R+D+i.

21 September 2011 - 23 September 2011
Austria
On September 21-23, an international panel of Latin American and European key players of government, academia, industry involved in S&T cooperation will meet in Brasilia (Brazil) in the event “Synchronising EU-LatAm research priorities and opportunitites” to debate over the challenges and opportunities of a coordinated strategy for EU-LA R+D+i.

This pioneering workshop able to bring government representatives and research funding agencies throughout the region, from Chile to Mexico, for the first time together, represents a milestone of the FORESTA project, an FP7 Support Action aiming to advance the research cooperation in the ICT field with the Latin-American countries that have established S&T agreements with EU.

In the past months, the project performed intense consultation with stakeholders of the international cooperation domain and organised a series of conferences in 5 different Latin American countries that have debated the national digital plans and expectations around cooperation with Europe. Technological areas of mutual interest have been identified and recommendations for an enhanced collaborative framework have been produced.

In the Brazilian next appointment, participants from the Latin American countries including Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina will share the specific experiences and practices related to research funding in order to facilitate the emergence of common positions and encourage the synchronization of support instruments to cooperation in ICT research with EU. The expected outcome will be an agreement over a joint work plan for future collaboration activities with the final aim to better harmonise European and Latin American research strategies.

Agendas of the event, as well as practical information and registration details, are ready and available at the project website www.forestaproject.eu .

Participation is free and encouraged for all people active in innovation and technological research, notably representatives of funding agencies, managers of funding programmes, players in the international cooperation domain as well as entrepreneurs interested in business internationalisation.
