Opening Conference of the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC ) in Brno, Czech Republic

The opening conference is held to celebrate the final approval and start of operation of CEITEC – Central European Institute of Technology. The conference will be opened by the Czech Prime Minister Petr Nečas and representatives of the European Commission.

CEITEC – Central European Institute of Technology, is a major research and development project with a budget of more than 200 mil. EUR focused on establishment of a European centre of excellence in the area of life sciences and advanced materials and technologies, jointly implemented by the leading universities and research centres in Brno (Masaryk University, Brno University of Technology, Mendel University, Veterinary and Pharmaceutical University, Institute of Physics of Materials, Veterinary Research Institute and supported by the South Moravian region and the city of Brno.

The centre will conduct competitive research as well as provide advanced post-gradual and postdoctoral education in nanotechnologies and microtechnologies, structural biology, genomics and proteomics, including applications in advanced materials and medicine. The installed front-end technologies will be used for synergic studies in life and material sciences at all currently available levels of complexity, starting from single atoms, through molecules, molecular ensembles, cells to complete organisms. The project answers the need for concentration of European know-how in order to achieve the excellence in science. Moreover it will increase the competitiveness of R&D in the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries in the region.
