Carmen García-Rosales chosen as a member of the new Specialised Group in Plasma Physics
Hidalgo presented the possibility of creating a Specialised Group in Plasma Physics (GEFP) within the framework of the Royal Spanish Physics Society in order to bring together work on fusion plasma (magnetic and inertial), astrophysics, cold plasma and technological applications.
The proposal was very well received and in October of the same year the first list of researchers interested in participating in the project either directly or in future activities was drawn up. There were 97 professionals from numerous Spanish universities and research centres on the list, including García-Rosales as the only representative from CEIT/University of Navarra. The group was officially formed in late 2009.
In January of 2010 the founding meeting took place, and Hidalgo as president proposed the formation of a provisional Constituent Board made up of 32 researchers, including Carmen García-Rosales, in order to reflect the diversity of the subject areas conducting research in plasma physics in Spain as well as the diversity of regions in which this research is carried out.
Among the various activities that GEFP have undertaken so far, one of the highlights is an international symposium on "Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion: Basic Science and Technological Development", where the CEIT researcher gave a presentation. The symposium, which was funded by the Ramón Areces Foundation, was held in Madrid in April of this year.
Currently, these are the twelve elected members of the Group:
M. Dolores Calzada, University of Cordoba
Francisco Castejón, CIEMAT
Luis Conde, Technical University of Madrid (ETSIA)
Carmen García-Rosales, CEIT / University of Navarra
Marco Antonio Gigosos, University of Valladolid
Carlos Hidalgo, CIEMAT
Fernando Moreno, Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias
José Manuel Perlado, Technical University of Madrid (Industrial)
Raúl Sánchez, Carlos III University
Francisco Tabares, CIEMAT
José Antonio Tagle, Iberdrola
Isabel Tanarro, CSIC- Institute for the Structure of Matter
