A Europe-Latin America international conference to reinforce biregional ICT research cooperation in Brussels, Belgium

‘Fostering EU-Latin America ICT Policy Dialogue’ will be held in Brussels next 28/29 November 2011 bringing together the EU-LA actors for cooperative research and innovation.

28 November 2011 - 29 November 2011
Argentina
On Monday and Tuesday 28 and 29 November 2011, the international conference ‘Fostering EU-Latin America ICT Policy Dialogue’ will take place in Brussels. The conference is organised under the FORESTA project (www.forestaprojct.eu) funded under the EU’s 7th Framework Programme to support R&D cooperation between Latin America and Europe in the field of ICT. In the last two years, the FORESTA project has performed intense consultation with researchers, industry, policy makers and other stakeholders of research and innovation cooperation and has organised high-level policy conferences in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. Studies, recommendations and position papers in support of a Euro–Latin America coordinated strategy in ICT research have been produced. A particular focus has been placed on the development of cooperation with Latin America under Horizon 2020, the upcoming EU framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Now it is time to bring the results of all this work to Europe.

The event will be an important forum for European and Latin-American research stakeholders to discuss strategies to intensify cooperation in Information and Communication Technologies. It will bring together stakeholders from ICT research, industry and industry federations, decision-makers, European and Latin-American research and innovation funding agencies, as well as SMEs and large companies from each region interested in cooperation with Latin America and with Europe.

‘Fostering EU-Latin America ICT Policy Dialogue’ will feature panel speeches as well as round tables dedicated to the different aspects related to S&T cooperation, including research topics for joint EU-LA research, funding programmes and instruments, and policy issues. The ultimate aim of the conference is the development of strategic recommendations in the form of a Joint Declaration that will be presented to representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and of Latin-American governments in the closing session of the event to be held at the European Parliament.
Participation to the whole conference is free of charge. The venue on 28 November is the congress centre Science 14 Atrium, Rue de la Science no. 14b, 1140 Brussels. The venue on 29 November is the European Parliament, Altiero Spinelli building, Room JAN 6Q1, entrance from Place du Luxembourg, 1067, Brussels. To attend the conference session at the European Parliament, pre-registration is compulsory: please register before the 21st of November via forestaproject.eu
