The project RISE launches a European initiative on ethics of biometrics
During the conference Alexander Nouak, chairman of the new European Biometric Association (EBA) will present the EBA, and the EBA Special Committee on Ethical and Societal aspects of Biometrics, chaired by Emilio Mordini, and generated by RISE and its sister project HIDE.
The EBA Special Committee on Ethical and Societal aspects of Biometrics will provide an open forum to discuss ethical, privacy and social issues raised by biometrics and identification technologies. It will complement work carried out in bilateral and multilateral forums sponsored at governmental level. It will also be responsible for promoting a biennial conference, which should give the overall political impetus to the dialogue.
The conference will be opened by an introductory lecture delivered by Peter Hustinx, European Data Protection Supervisor. Other speakers include: Alexander G. Ivanchenko, Executive Director of the Russian Security Industry Association; François Géré, President of the Institut français d’analyse stratégique; Alan Gelb, formerly, Director of Development Policy at the World Bank; Kamlesh Bajaj, CEO of the Data Security Council of India; Young-Bin Kwon, convenor of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 37/WG 2, Biometric technical interfaces.
