The global nature of the telecommunications industry means that some workers in that field might be interested in "now 99", Australia's leading communications conference and exhibition, which will be held in Sydney, Australia on 17 and 18 May 1999.

Australia's Federal Minister for Communications, IT and the Arts, Senator Richard Alston, will open the event and promote his vision for the second stage of Australia's move towards open competition in telecommunications, and the challenges of electronic commerce.

Examples of the topics to be covered at the event include:

- Voice communications services;
- Call centres;
- Data networking;
- Electronic commerce and the Internet;
- Wireless;
- Cabling.
