Technical Course on Bioinspired and Soft Computing-based Intelligent System Design to Solve Real-world Medical Imaging Problems

This second technical course, an ideal complement of the first technical course held in Mieres in July 2011, will deal with the core of the training programme, since it will focus on Bioinspired (BC) and Soft Computing (SC)-based intelligent system design to solve real-world medical imaging (MI) problems. A detailed summary of real-world applications will be taught by different experts from the network participants and associated partners, including topics such as tracking in MI, computer-aided surgery, medical robotics and other SC-BC-based MI applications.

Technical Course on Bioinspired and Soft Computing-based Intelligent System Design to Solve Real-world Medical Imaging Problems. Second Technical Course in the Framework of MIBISOC Marie Curie ITN

This second technical course, an ideal complement of the first technical course held in Mieres in July 2011, will deal with the core of the training programme, since it will focus on Bioinspired (BC) and Soft Computing (SC)-based intelligent system design to solve real-world medical imaging (MI) problems. A detailed summary of real-world applications will be taught by different experts from the network participants and associated partners, including topics such as tracking in MI, computer-aided surgery, medical robotics and other SC-BC-based MI applications.

It will be held in the facilities of the University of Parma, Italy, from February 21 to February 25, 2012.

Syllabus for this second technical course:

1. Structure tracking in MI using NNs and BC.
2. BC-SC for visualisation in multidimensional MI.
3. BC-SC solutions in surgery.
4. Medical robotics and SC-BC.
5. MI classification for diagnosis.
6. Other SC-BC-based MI applications.

Registration

Registration in the course is free.
There are 16 available vacancies, and the selected applicants will receive a grant to support the travel and accommodation expenses. Should you be interested in some of these 16 vacancies, send your CV to registration@mibisoc-itn.eu before January 20, 2012. The selected applicants will be notified by e-mail by February 1, 2012. To receive the grant it will be necessary to attend to the whole course and to present a poster. This poster has to be related with each participant’s experience or research in the field of medical imaging (recommended dimensions for the poster 90x70cm).

Location and accommodation

The course will take place in Parma, a town located in a very convenient position just in the middle of the center-north of Italy. Parma has good train/bus connections with the main airports of the area: Bologna (BLQ), Milan Linate (LIN), Milan Malpensa (MPX), Bergamo (BGY), besides its own small airport (“Giuseppe Verdi”, PMF) with connections (three days a week) with London Stansted (STN), and daily national flights to Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Catania (CTA).
