FORESIGHT SECURITY SCENARIOS

Scenarios for future exogenous roles of the EU in civil security
What stakeholders need and what future security research should heed

You are cordially invited to attend the mid-term symposium of the EU Security Research project known as FOCUS (“Foresight Security Scenarios – Mapping Research to a Comprehensive Approach to Exogenous EU Roles”).

Co-funded under the Security Research theme of the EU’s 7th EU Framework Programme, this new two-year project (April 2011 - March 2013) aims wide but with concrete policy guidance in mind: namely to define the most plausible threat scenarios that affect the “borderline” between the EU’s external and internal dimensions to security – and derive guidance on the Union’s future possible security roles and decisions to plan research in support of those roles.

FOCUS is elaborating a set of scenarios, based on IT-supported foresight, ranging from natural and man-made disasters to terrorism and malicious attacks on Europe’s critical infrastructures. Along with its IT Platform, two of the project’s main deliverables will be the creation of a long-term prediction and assessment tool at EU level and a roadmap to plan and prioritize future Security Research objectives.
