Standardising pressure equipment in Europe
The conference will be of interest to senior managers, engineers, market analysts, government, academia, inspection bodies and national authorities, and of commercial concern for industry and others who want to learn about the EU Directive 97/23/EC and the programme of related standards.
The Directive will come into force in November 1999 with a transition period running until 2002. It deals with design, manufacture, and conformity assessment leading to 'CE marking'. The Directive covers pressure equipment and assemblies with a pressure greater than 0.5 bar above atmospheric pressure.
The complete standards programme for pressure equipment will consist of more than 800 documents. By the time of the conference in September some key standards such as those for unfired pressure vessels, and shell and water-tube boilers will be available as 'drafts for public enquiry'.
The conference will provide a forum for discussions of the technical aspects of the standards and the changes introduced by the new standards. The actions surrounding the organisational changes to meet the requirements and conformity with the Directive will also be presented and organisations from outside of Europe will be given a platform to talk about international reaction to the European initiatives.
The topics of the conference will be presented through papers and panel sessions. There will also be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
