Workshop on Sampling, Detection and Quantification of Impurities in Gases from Thermochemical Biomass Conversion Process - “Gas Analysis Workshop” in Milan, Italy
A second major issue is related with the detection and analysis of trace elements in synthesis gases. Especially sulphur (H2S, COS; CS2, organic sulphur – thiophenes) and nitrous species (Ammonia) are of importance. Current analytical approaches will be presented and brought to discussion.
In the after course of the workshop 2011 it was discussed how the analytical questions in this field of science, research and development could be brought to a better attention. An international working group shall be formed and actions will be discussed within this workshop and at this conference in general. 0
Programme Outline
Part I: Status and future needs for gas analysis, international working groups
Introduction to the topic, overview of international working groups adressing the issue of Sampling, Detection and Quantification of Impurities in Gases from Thermochemical Biomass Conversion Processes. Status from last workshop 2011, register-profile from active institutions (questionnaire-table).
Part II: Current status of the art of off-line tar analysis methods for tar from various gas families
Liquid sampling
Reflections on the Existing Guideline (and EN) about the Sampling and Analysis of Tar
How is the ‘tar guideline’ used today? Differing measurement approaches with liquid sampling
Sampling on Adsorbents
The general application of the SPA-method for tar sampling and analysis
SPA tar sampling and thermal desorption of analytes
Experience report about SPE-Application
Discussion of SPE-Application, comparability against accumulating method Guideline CEN/TS 15439, further planning
Break for Conference Session 2DO.5 (Gasification Process Analysis) which includes presentations with analytical background.
Part III: Analytical approaches for the characterization of synthesis gases regarding trace elements like sulphur, chlorine, alkali and nitrous species
Discussion of general questions raised in Session 2DO.5 - Chemical parameters
Needs of a “guideline” or “methods library” for chemical parameters, action plan
Review-paper 1/2; Stat. Analysis round bin of samples
