Strategies for development of biotechnology

The fifth international conference on strategies for development of a biotechnology industry will be held in Bergen, Norway, on 27 and 28 September 1999. Bruno Hansen, Director in the European Commission, DG XII, will be one of the key speakers at the conference, alongside the Norwegian Minister for Trade and Industry.

Topics to be addressed during the conference will include:

- Policies for research-based industrial development;
- Public and private investment in biotechnology;
- The role of biotechnology for sustainable development;
- Innovative new biotech businesses;
- Biotechnology and Marine Resources;
- Biotechnology, health and environment.
