Europe's contribution to improving access to historical and cultural sources through digital resources will be addressed in the Digitisation of European Cultural Heritage conference, to be held in Utrecht, The Netherlands, from 21 to 23 October 1999.

Different approaches to digitisation will be explored, in particular the differing European and Anglo-Saxon attitudes practised in the USA, Canada and the UK.

Hans Nulder, curator of printed books at Utrecht University Library and organiser of the conference, said: 'Our main aim is to make people aware of the different possibilities, and aware of the lessons learned by people who have already digitised. We need to make it clear to the world that in Europe we are doing quite a lot of research in this area.'
