As the 21st century approaches, the telecommunications industry will gather for the 21st international conference of IDATE, the European telecommunications research institute, taking place on 18 and 19 November 1999 in Le Corum, France.

Funded partly by the European Commission, it will be an occasion for heads of major operator and industrial groups, top-level experts, regulators, bankers and other leading figures to gather.

'A wireless world?' is this year's principal theme, but the debates will also focus on two other topics: 'Lessons from Geneva' and 'Access: strategic issues and regulation'.

Conference organiser Isabel Jiminez said: 'It is one of the most important events in Europe, attracting high level speakers and attendees. We try to arrive at some conclusions about where the industry is and where it is going.'
