New working times and transforming organisations
The NIVA seminar 'New working times and transforming organisations' complementing the conference 'Working time in Europe - Towards a European working time policy', on 11 and 12 October 1999, arranged as part of the activity programme of the Finnish Presidency of the European Union. NIVA is the Nordic institute for advanced training in occupational health.
NIVA director Elizabeth Lagerlof said: 'There are so many different terms and contracts of employment, many of which lead to pressures of working hours and stressful but inactive activity. The implications for the health and wellbeing of employees are not yet fully known.
'The conference will not cover the health effects of working times. That is why, after discussion with Finnish trades unions and management, we have decided to hold this seminar where we shall present the current status of living and working conditions in the EU.'
The seminar will cover the implications of different working patterns, as revealed by the latest research. The policy implications of new working patterns and the challenges for leadership will also be discussed.
