'Where car and future technology meet' - VDA Technical Congress 1999
This year's subject, 'Where car and future technology meet', aims to address the occasionally conflicting topics of 'safety' and 'energy and environment'.
Herbert Wancura, managing director of Intema Consult who are organising the conference said: 'To make cars safer, they are made heavier, but heavier cars are less environmentally friendly. The congress hopes to address these issues from both sides, allowing speakers to highlight the conflict areas.'
The aim of these discussions is to move towards some form of international standard.
President of the VDA Dr Bernd Gottscalk said: 'The global structure of the automotive industry makes it necessary to examine the areas of safety and environmental protection from the angle of a worldwide harmonisation of regulations and standards. In this respect the technical congress would like to contribute its work to come closer to the goal of worldwide harmonisation under the motto "tested once, accepted everywhere".'
Congress participants will be given tickets to the IAA auto-show which lasts for two weeks. The two events are separate, although they are part of the same overall programme.
