New Satellite and Terrestrial Applications - Wireless, Wireline and Internet in a Borderless World - will be the subject of the ninth global forum, 'Shaping the Future', to be held in Sophia-Antipolis, France, on 18 and 19 November 1999.

The event coincides with the 30th anniversary celebration of the new town Sophia-Antipolis, the self-billed silicon valley of France, and is supported by the European Commission.

Organised by Foundation Sophia-Antipolis and ITEMS International, it presents an opportunity for industry CEOs, political leaders and international experts on the Information Society to exchange views and initiate new partnerships.

The conference will focus on the changing regulatory market, in particular the problems of security and privacy on the Internet, and the possibilities afforded by broadband services, notably digital television.

Other topics to be covered will include new industry directions in infrastructure; barriers to development of new services, technologies and competition; and innovative new applications.
