The fifth European Digital Cities (EDC) conference on telematics opportunities for European peripheral areas will be held in Bari, Italy, on 4 and 5 October 1999.

The EDC project is a support action of the European Union's Telematics Applications programme (part of the Fourth Framework Programme, 1994-98), and the purpose of the event is to disseminate the results of Telematics Applications projects developed in peripheral areas and to encourage the sharing of experiences between regions, towns and cities.

Among the telematics topics to be covered are examples of best practices in the application of telematics; the socio-economic impact; synergy between cities and regions for the development of advanced infrastructures; city smartcards; collaboration opportunities; and transferring results of successful projects.
