The results of the STIMULUS transport demonstration project will be presented at a conference on 24 September 1999 in Rome, where it plans to launch its new system for evaluating and segmenting the integrated transport information market.

The one-day conference is expected to attract key representatives from public transport operators, advertising agencies, statistical institutes, development agencies, marketing managers and mobility managers, all of whom may be concerned with segmentation issues at the early stage of any commercial venture.

Funded by the Transport research programme, part of the EU's Fourth Framework Programme, the STIMULUS project aimed to establish efficient communications between decision-takers, transport users and citizens to enable a more successful implementation of traffic management measures. The project developed and evaluated a methodology for transport market segmentation to enable a user-friendly system of traffic, transport and information management.

Questions about the social effects of information systems relating to transport pricing, restraint, infrastructure and other policy initiatives will be answered by the STIMULUS system, without the need for specific market research studies on each individual project. Its key attributes will be ease of use, economy and speed for the user and equity for the communities and user groups likely to be affected.

Policy formulators will be able to access high quality market and community information, which the project claims will enable ideas and policies to be developed 'more quickly, more accurately, more cheaply and more compatibly than any other system currently available'.

The conference will be interactive allowing all participants to ask questions and make suggestions and comments. There will also be an opportunity to see the STIMULUS software system at work.
