The RESFOOD Project is organising an info session on Thursday the 8th of May, from 9.00 to 14.00 to share and discuss its preliminary results on resource efficiency and safety in horticulture with the industry, especially the SMEs: end-users and suppliers

The RESFOOD Project – Resource Efficiency and Safe Food Production and Processing – works for the development of innovative technologies to boost recovery, recycling and reuse of water, energy and nutrients in food production and processing, as well as to bring the food safety at a new level by using effective disinfection technologies and rapid pathogen detection systems. The project is organizing an info session on 8th May to share its preliminary results on the innovative technologies for efficient and safe use and re-use of water and nutrients in horticulture. The session will be realized at the Demokwekerij premises, one of the pilot demonstration sites for the horticulture research of RESFOOD.

This info session will concentrate on the presentation of the project's research activities in horticulture and a focused discussion with the main scientific project partners. Among the topics covered are closed recirculation water systems in soilless cultivation, water cleaning technologies and rapid and early detection of pathogens in food and water at the growing stage. Following the presentation and discussion of RESFOOD results, participants will visit the pilot implementation at Demokwekerij where they will be able to see the ongoing tests on soilless cultivation. Depending on the interest from participants, a further visit to a practical plant nearby Demokwekerij will be organized in the afternoon.

The info session is mainly open to representatives from industry and especially SMEs that will be the end users and suppliers of the proposed technologies. However, other interested practitioners from the horticulture field, as well as policy makers and researchers working on resource efficiency and safety in the food chain are also welcome to attend. Participants from both The Netherlands and other parts of Europe are invited to join this info session, which will be organized in English.
