The African-European Radio Astronomy Platform (AERAP) is participating in a workshop in Lisbon on the 30th of November 2012

The Square Kilometer Array - A large Scale ESFRI Infrastructure, From the Cosmos to the Cities of the Future

30 November 2012
Portugal
The workshop explains the SKA-Square Kilometer Array project and its scientific and socio-economic potential to European and African policy makers, the scientific community and industry. It is the side event to the ‘2012 Africa-EU Cooperation Week on ICT’ organized by the EuroAfrica-ICT/P8 Initiative on Nov. 26-30, 2012 in Lisbon.

Part of the workshop is a presentation on "The SKA in EU-Africa relations: The AERAP at the European & African Parliaments" presented by Declan Kirrane, Managing Director of ISC Intelligence in Science.

The African-European Radio Astronomy Platform (AERAP) is a new stakeholder forum of industry, academia and the public sector established to define and implement priorities for radio astronomy cooperation between Africa and Europe. The overall goals of the platform are to leverage radio astronomy, advance scientific discovery, improve knowledge transfer and stimulate competitiveness across both continents. The platform will also enable effective dialogue to build a shared vision for international cooperation in radio astronomy. AERAP came as a response to the calls of the European Parliament, through the adoption of the Written Declaration 45/2011, and of the Heads of State of the African Union, through their decision “Assembly/AU/Dec.407 CXVIII”, for radio astronomy to be a priority focus area for Africa—EU cooperation.

ISC Intelligence in Science has organized several workshops for AERAP and provides the AERAP Helpdesk. The Helpdesk offers a multitude of services which connect researchers and companies who are interested in radio astronomy cooperation projects.
