Those with an interest in the Libraries sector of the EU's Telematics Applications programme might like to attend a concertation meeting in Luxembourg subtitled 'Consolidating the European Library Space', between 17 and 19 November 1999.

The event marks the imminent closure of the programme as libraries research becomes an integrated part of the User-friendly Information Society (IST) programme under the EU's Fifth RTD Framework Programme. The achievements of the Telematics for Libraries sector will therefore be reviewed, with an evaluation of its results and a look forward to new alliances and key issues facing the European Information Society in the future.

The event is targeted at all those who participated in libraries activities in the Third and Fourth RTD Framework Programmes, at the European library Community at large and those involved in related FP5 projects.

The event will include:

- Keynote speeches and a panel discussion on the changing role of libraries in European society;
- Presentations and parallel sessions focusing on programme and project achievements and emerging issues.
