The first international environmental technology conference for sustainable development of EU accession countries will be held in Budapest, Hungary, on 18 November 1999, on the subject 'waste and water management'.

The conference is intended to give a boost to eco-industries in Central Europe. These industries are expected to grow rapidly in line with new industrial, environmental and cost-efficiency challenges, requiring the development and application of new technologies and applications. The event will provide a forum for parties involved in eco-industries to share new ideas and concepts.

One of the most promising sectors for advanced environmental technology applications is 'waste and water management' - the subject of the first conference.

Coordinator Edward Someus, the inventor of the waste management system TDT-3R which claims to be cheaper and less polluting than existing technologies, said: 'In order to meet the new industrial, environmental and cost efficiency challenges of the 21st century, a new innovative generation of environmental and industrial technologies and application concepts needs to be designed, developed and applied.

'The rapid development of eco-industries markets world-wide signals the moment to step-up technological and commercial development to exploit the opportunities.'
