LIMMS Workshop Beyond the Frontiers of Nanoscience and Biosystems in Paris, France

On May 16-17 in Paris, the international European-Japanese workshop will discuss the frontier research on Nanoscience and Biosystems by Japanese, French and European research leaders around 4 topics : molecular and cellular systems, biomechanical measurement and analysis, in situ characterization of nanostructures and energy conscious devices. It will also be gateway to mobility at LIMM/CNRS-IIS.

16 May 2013 - 17 May 2013
Austria
The LIMMS (Laboratory for Integrated Micro Mechatronic Systems) is an International Joint research Unit between the French National Centre for Scientific Research and the Institute of Industrial Science of the University of Tokyo (UT-IIS). Created in 1995, the LIMMS hosts French and Japanese researchers who jointly develop their research making use of micro and nanotechnologies. Since its beginnings, the LIMMS has been hosting more than a 100 scientists. In the last four years, more than 200 publications and 5 patents were released by this international laboratory.

Since December 2011, the LIMMS has been funded by the 7th Framework Program for Research and Development of the European Union to open to 3 European partners: Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne (EPFL-Switzerland), University of Freiburg (IMTEK-Germany), and Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT-Finland). Through this project, LIMMS/CNRS-IIS and its European extension called EUJO-LIMMS, becomes the first international laboratory of the European Union in Japan.

The international European-Japanese workshop will review and discuss the frontier research on Nanoscience and Biosystems by Japanese, French and European research leaders. The workshop is organized around 4 up to date challenging topics:

1. Molecular and Cellular Systems
2. Biomechanical Measurement and Analysis
3. In situ Characterization of Nanostructures
4. Energy Conscious Devices

Projects currently underway at LIMMS (joint laboratory between Institute for Engineering and Systems Sciences CNRS and Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo) will be presented in poster session as well as all research opportunities provided by the hosting groups for researchers aiming to join LIMMS.
