A case study from the food industry will form the basis of a seminar on 'European funding for industrial development and international cooperation - from theory to practice', being held in Parma, Italy, on 30 September 1999.

The event aims to demonstrate to organisations, including small and medium-sized enterprises, how European funding (and by implication international cooperation) can benefit their activities. Following the publication on 15 September of the latest round of calls for proposals under the EU's Fifth Framework Programme, the event will aim to explore the means of obtaining funding and present advice for doing so.

As well as looking at EU research funding programmes, the seminar will also cover the special SME measures in the Fifth Framework Programme, designed to encourage and facilitate SMEs' participation. International cooperation beyond the EU's borders will be discussed on the basis of the Australian example, with a presentation of the European-Australian Cooperation Centre.
