Fighting child pornography on the Internet
As most Internet users and service providers are based in the US and Europe, the US and Austrian Foreign Ministers, Madeleine Albright and Wolfgang Schüssel, set up the conference in order to fight this growing form of crime together.
To combat pornography effectively it would help to improve cooperation between law enforcement officials and the judiciary, and establish a voluntary code of conduct among Internet service providers. The conference also aims to encourage the establishment of further hotlines for citizens to report leads on child pornography and the networking of existing hotlines.
Above all conference organisers hope to raise awareness and mobilise public opinion against this exploitation of children. High level officials from the Ministries of Interior and Justice, the judiciary and police and representatives of affected organisations such as NGOs and Internet service providers will be invited to participate.
