Proposal-writing workshops for the Growth programme

In-depth information and advice on how to prepare successful proposals for the Competitive and Sustainable Growth programme, part of the EU's Fifth Framework Programme, will be given in a series of workshops organised by IETT - Institute of European Trade and Technology. IETT is running two-day proposal writing courses throughout October and November which will be particularly useful to organisations intending to apply under the next call expected to be published on 15 December 1999.

The structure of the courses is flexible and proposers may attend one or both days. Day 1 will provide detailed introduction to the Growth programme and the art of good proposal writing. Day 2 will provide a detailed step-by-step explanation and practical examples of how to write successful proposals. The workshops will be run by experts with extensive experience of writing, evaluating and managing EU-funded projects in the fields covered by Growth.

The following are some of the topics to be covered by the courses:

- Overview of the programme;
- Evaluation criteria: understanding the EU's objectives;
- Selecting the right project idea, understanding call requirements;
- Finding partners, building a strong consortium;
- Fulfilling technical and socio-economic criteria;
- Step-by-step guide to writing and presenting a good proposal;
- Financial, management and other issues;
- How to improve chances of success: tips and check lists.

The dates and locations are:

7-8 October 1999, Paris;
11-12 October 1999, London;
14-15 October 1999, Amsterdam;
21-22 October 1999, Brussels;
4-5 November 1999, Paris.

Participants are encouraged to bring short summaries of their proposals or project ideas for consultation with experts. The two-day courses will suit both newcomers and more experienced proposers. They are aimed at senior managers in industrial, academic and research organisations, including SMEs, who wish to improve their skills and their understanding of the Growth programme. The workshops will take the form of lectures, round-table discussions, short group exercises, feedback sessions and one-to-one consultations. An informal dinner will be held in the evening of Day 1, giving the participants a further chance to network and share experiences.
