Brain: Factors influencing our Mood

Minerva Communication announces the third edition of the Brussels Science Apéro on the human brain.

19 June 2013 - 19 June 2013
Belgium
Does the weather have an impact on our mood? Which environmental and social factors influence our mood more? How can we have better control over our mood? These are just some examples of questions that will be answered by the guest speakers Dr. Pompilia Bianca Gordon, psychologist and psychotherapist and Dr. Sebastian Haesler, principal investigator at Neuro-Electronics Research Flanders (NERF).

What?

A friendly discussion on the topic: « Brain: Factors Influencing our Mood ».
Europeans are increasingly concerned about their quality of life and the environment surrounding them. Some people see their moods changing day-to-day or hour-to-hour without understanding why. Everyone reacts differently to environmental and social factors but, in many cases, people would like to manage their emotions and know the key factors for preventing neurological diseases.

Thanks to the two experts participating in this scientific discussion, a neuroscientist and a psychologist, participants will be able to share their concerns and ask specific questions to clear up any doubts that they have. The two experts will explain, from their own point of view, what ‘mood’ is and how weather, environmental and external social factors can influence or modify mood significantly.

After the session, interviews with the experts participating in the discussion can be arranged and audio-visual material can also be provided upon request.

Where?
Scott’s Bar, rue Montagne aux Herbes Potagères / Warmoesberg, Brussels, in front of the exit of the « Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, Galerie de la Reine ».

When?
Wednesday the 19th of June from 6:30pm.

Background

The Brussels Science Apéro is a recent initiative launched by Minerva Communication as an occasion where curious people have the opportunity to ask questions about a specific scientific topic in the setting of a cosy bar. During these sessions, speakers (researchers, professors or experts) ask and answer questions on a specific scientific subject. The main objective is to make scientific knowledge available to everyone by bringing science outside of the walls of the laboratories and universities. These events are held in English and are free of charge.

The first two Brussels Science Apéro events focused on two different thematic: aviation and pesticides. The large number of participants had the opportunity to ask for several questions to the invited speakers. In the first case, these were a pilot and an expert on EU policy and air traffic management while, in the second session, a researcher, Head of the Crop Protection Laboratory at Ghent University gave practical advice on how to reduce the consumption of pesticides on a daily basis.

Minerva Consulting & Communication is a communication agency based in Brussels since 1998 that cooperates with the European Research Framework Programme. Minerva strives to help researchers share their results with the public at large in a language that is comprehensible to everyone in a manner that does not compromise the scientific results.
