'Bio-practice' a conference and brokerage event for market-oriented research, development and applications of biotechnology in the agricultural sector will be held in Prague on 8 and 9 November 1999.

While the main focus of the conference will be on agriculture, biotechnology in the food industry, the 'cell factory' and the applications of biotechnology for environmental problems will also be discussed.

It is also aimed at:

- Promoting successful market-oriented RTD cooperation;
- Informing on current strategies for promotion of biotechnological developments;
- Offering links for RTD cooperation.

There will also be a presentation by a representative from the European Commission's Research Directorate-General on the Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources programme, part of the EU's Fifth RTD Framework Programme.

The event is expected to make a substantial contribution to cooperation, in market-oriented biotechnology research in the agriculture sector, between organisations from Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary and Poland.

It is being jointly organised by the Austrian Bureau for International Research and Technology Cooperation (BIT) and the Czech Republic's Technology Centre of the Academy of Sciences, in cooperation with the Austrian Science and Research Liaison Office in Brno.
