A conference designed to address solutions to Europe's skills gap in the field of information and communications technologies will take place in Helsinki, on 25 November 1999, following the conclusion of the IST 99 conference.

A group of major European telecoms and IT companies have been working with the European Commission to develop and promote new partnerships to address the skills gap. Whilst many excellent initiatives are already bringing benefits in this area, these are predominantly local. So this conference will focus on sharing work already done in the area of raising the profile and attracting more people to the industry. It will also look at other examples of initiatives and innovative partnerships, and most importantly bring together representatives of education, business and government from across Europe to foster new ideas and new partnerships.
