Third Issue of MaCuMBA Project News Now Available

The third newsletter of the MaCuMBA (Marine Microorganisms: Cultivation Methods for Improving their Biotechnological Applications) project is now available to download from the project’s website: www.macumbaproject.eu

23 July 2013
Austria
MaCuMBA is a four-year EC FP7-funded project that aims to uncover the untold diversity of marine microbes using cultivation-dependent strategies.

This issue of MaCuMBA Project News features: an interview with Dr Anne Godfroy from L’Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer (Ifremer), France, who is the leader of Work Package 3 (WP3), Improving culture efficiency of already isolated and cultured microorganism; Dr Daniel Sher of the University of Haifa discussing the FP7-funded MICROBES-2-MODEL project; in Culture Club, some of the scientists working together to achieve the MaCuMBA project’s aims are featured; MaCuMBA partner, BIOALVO, has recently been promoting the project in Portugal; and the newsletter's Under the Microscope section provides an in-brief look at some stories relating to marine microorganisms that have been making the news.

Notes for Editors

MaCuMBA is led by the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) and is a joint venture of 23 partner institutions from 11 EU countries. MaCuMBA aims to improve the isolation rate and growth efficiency of marine microorganisms from conventional and extreme habitats by applying innovative methods and using automated high-throughput procedures. AquaTT is the communication and dissemination partner for the project.
