The electronic library: strategic, policy and management issues
The objective of this international event is to highlight the issues that must be addressed before developing a strategy for electronic library services. The issues to be discussed will be relevant to all libraries, large and small.
The increasing acceptance of digital information available through networks has become a challenge for libraries which after centuries of stability are now facing major changes. Information is spreading beyond books and journals to digital archives, electronic databases, networked collections of images and sounds and the Internet and intranets. If the library is to maintain its role as the provider of access to information then a strategy for delivering electronic information to users must be adopted.
The conference programme has been designed to explore a wide range of issues raised by the prospect of the electronic library - legal, technical, psychological, financial, personnel and managerial.
Senior policy makers and managers working in libraries or information units and involved in service provision and development strategies are expected to attend.
