UK to host major International Refrigeration Conference in London, June 2014

The Institute of Refrigeration is proud to announce that it will be hosting the International Institute of Refrigeration’s 3rd International Conference on Sustainability and the Cold Chain in June 2014 in London.

The Institute of Refrigeration is proud to announce that it will be hosting the International Institute of Refrigeration’s 3rd International Conference on Sustainability and the Cold Chain in June 2014 in London.

This prestigious conference will attract an international audience of researchers and industrialists to the UK, and provide an opportunity to showcase leading edge developments.

The conference programmes will feature two themes:

The Cold Chain will bring together those with an interest in the cold chain, covering food, transport and other applications to explore new developments and key trends in technology. The Conference will be supported by experts from relevant International Institute of Refrigeration commissions.

Sustainability in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps will focus on environmental issues and innovation. Topics will include the integration of heating and cooling, refrigeration containment, renewable energy in the cold chain and carbon foot-printing. The event will be held in association with SIRACH, the Sustainability in Refrigeration Air Conditioning and Heat Pump network. SIRACH has been set up in the UK to drive the research agenda on sustainability for our sector.

“This is an excellent opportunity to put the UK more firmly on the international map and develop a better understanding of the work that is taking place in these two very important sectors. The UK hosted the first event in this series in 2010 in Cambridge which was overwhelmingly successful with over 150 people taking part.” said Judith Evans FInstR, Chairman of the Conference Planning Group.

The programme will feature 60 technical papers presented across two days. The conference will begin with a reception on the 23rd June and continue on the 24th and 25th June 2014. The venue, St Mary’s University College Twickenham, offers self contained meeting rooms and accommodation on-campus within easy reach of central London and Heathrow airport.

A formal call for authors of papers is now being issued. The organisers would particularly welcome applications for papers to be presented which showcase UK and international innovation in the cold chain, and practical case studies of how sustainable refrigeration technology is being introduced. Abstracts should be submitted by 1st November 2013 to lisa@ior.org.uk. Full details of the call for papers and guidelines for authors are available at www.iccc2014.com

The conference programme will include two parallel streams of papers and three keynote addresses. It will also feature a series of short courses on related themes such as: the Retail Roadmap revisited, the Integration of heating and cooling in buildings and local networks, Novel preservation technologies. In addition, there will be a conference dinner and a choice of technical site visits relating to both themes. Delegates will receive a data stick of the full conference proceedings and all papers.

The organising team for the conference is being led by Judith Evans FInstR of London South Bank University and Refrigeration Developments and Testing. Judith is a member of the International Institute of Refrigeration C2, food science and engineering, and D1, retail display cabinets committees as well as being the Chairman of the UK International Refrigeration Committee and a member of the IOR Technical Committee. Other organising team members are Andy Pearson FInstR of Star Refrigeration (Past President of the IOR), Bob Low of Mexichem Fluor, Brian Churchyard MInstR of ASDA, David Bostock MInstR of GEA, Paul Arrowsmith FInstR of WR Refrigeration, Alban Leiper of Greenfield Energy, Robert Kebby MInstR of Honeywell, Manuel Camacho MInstR of J&E Hall and Savvas Tassou MInstR of Brunel University. There is also an international scientific committee of advisers.

The delegate fees will start at around £450 for two and a half days’ programme including lunches, receptions and a conference dinner, as well as a data stick containing all papers and notes. Prices including two nights accommodation are also available.
