The European Association Remote Sensing Laboratory will hold a special interest group on land ice and snow in Dresden, Germany, on 13 or 17 June 2000.

The EARSeL special interest group for land ice and snow (LIS-SIG) is intended as a forum for the remote sensing community. It aims to help researchers in the following ways:

- Better understand the fundamentals of remote sensing of the cryosphere;
- Assist the development of techniques and tools for analysing remote sensing data for snow and land ice;
- Assist with the application of remote sensing data in related topics such as snow, hydrology, and glaciology.

Workshop topics will include:

- Snow of mountainous regions;
- Remote sensing of snow and land ice as a contribution to global change;
- Glacier monitoring (interferometry, textural analysis, etc.);
- New sensors for snow and land ice monitoring.
