EUCU.NET Joint Conference: Truth or Dare - Dilemmas in Science Communication for Children - REMINDER

The European Children's Universities Network (EUCU.NET) kindly reminds you about the upcoming EUCU.NET/SiS Catalyst Joint Conference:

23 October 2013 - 26 October 2013
Austria
"Truth or Dare - Dilemmas in science communication with and for children"
University of Technology, Lódz/Poland
October 23rd -26th, 2013
http://www.eucu.net/conference(opens in new window)

(Participation in the conference is free, but seating capacity is limited.)

The Lódz Conference will be around the challenge of going beyond the “easy-going” commonplace subjects in science programs for children – and to touch the more controversial, maybe even disturbing issues. As this might include threatening and sinister topics, or even the “unknowing” in science - is there an obligation to do so? If we take children serious as recipients and as dialogue partner in science communication, isn’t there a need to provide a more realistic picture of the scientific system, than to focus on the “fun parts” of science? And if so, how?

We kindly invite experts, practitioners and all other people interested in science communication for children to meet us in Lódz and join the debate!
Conference details and online registration are available on http://www.eucu.net/conference(opens in new window)

You can still contrinute to this conference with a poster presentation! Posters which address successful ways to communicate "difficult" or "controversial" scientific subjects to children and young people are particularly welcome: http://www.eucu.net/lodz_posters(opens in new window)
