A conference on 'Drug discovery and therapies from natural products, and the role of plants as pharmaceutical factories' will take place in Stirling, United Kingdom, on 5 May 2000. The event is organised by the Institute of Nanotechnology, in conjunction with the Technology Transfer Centre.

The natural world is an untapped treasure-trove of therapies which can lead to successful treatments for many diseases. Plant and animal extracts are recognised both for their potential in alternative medicine and as the basis of combinatorial drug discovery techniques. Plants are also finding increasing application as pharmaceutical 'factories'.

Leading researchers from the UK, Europe and the USA will discuss these various areas of research, and debate their economic, social and ethical implications.
