DIRECTION @ the International CAE Conference
The conference featured multiple parallel sessions over a range of fields from aerospace engineering and material processing to biomechanics and construction engineering. The latter is where Silvia Demattè and Angelo Messina from EnginSoft came in and presented their work on how to tackle the urgent challenge of refurbishing much of Europe’s ageing building stock.
Silvia Demattè drew on EnginSoft’s expertise about the issue of adopting an integrated design and optimization approach for refurbishment solutions stating that “all the disciplines that contribute to the response of the system have to be modelled in an appropriate manner”. Attendees were taken through a step by step process of the proposed workflow before being presented with some “take-home” conclusions – scientific evidence obtained through measurement and simulation is vital in promoting sustainability in the construction industry, and a multi-criterion optimisation approach has great potential in supporting the design process.
There was also an exhibition area for R&D projects, with the aim of sharing experience and facilitating new partnerships.
As conferences like CAE serve as showcases for projects linked to its core themes, DIRECTION was able to be promoted thus enjoying the opportunity for dissemination to delegates from both the construction industry and other fields.
