Luxembourg
A conference on 'New jobs in the Information Society' will be held in Luxembourg on 20 and 21 March 2000.

The event is intended to appeal to a broad audience, and particularly to people working in relevant institutions, employees of companies and administrations confronted with new working conditions, management consulting companies and educational associations.

The event is organised by ALTA (Association Luxembourgeoise des Téléactivités) with the support of the European Commission and the Luxembourg government under the patronage of Prime Minister Juncker. François Biltgen, Minister for Employment and Communication, will chair the congress and will open the first session.

The congress will focus on new jobs arising from the growing development of new information technologies, the repercussions regarding the organisation of enterprises and methods of work, appropriate education systems and new criteria of employability and productivity. More generally it addresses the socio-economic affects of the changes in this area in the context of jobs and working conditions.

The congress will include four half-day sessions. It will focus on the following themes:

- The economy of the future;
- New job profiles;
- Challenges for education and training;
- Impact on employment.

The final panel will present the conclusions from the event during the last half-day session. The major organisers (from the European Commission, international organisations, and public institutions) will present their initiatives and a round table will be opened for comments for all participants.
