First International conference for professional geologists

The First international professional geologists' conference will be held in Alicante, Spain, from 11 to 14 July 2000.
The conference is intended to draw attention to geological problems around the world and provide a forum for debating all aspects of professional activities in the field of earth sciences and to exchange experiences and ideas.
The event is also aimed to formulate initiatives for the creation of a World Professional Geology Organisation.
The conference will have six general sessions, nine round tables and six short courses featuring all the relevant aspects of professional geology in the world.
The conference organisers are currently calling for papers. All accepted proposals will be published in a special issue of the European Geologist magasine, which will be distributed at the beginning of the conference.
The conference is organised by the Spanish Official Association of Geologists, the European Federation of Geologists, the American Institute of Professional Geologists, the Canadian Council of Professional Geoscientists and the University of Alicante. His Royal Highness, Prince of Asturias, Felipe de Borbón y Grecia is Honorary President of the of the conference committee.
