Students will have the opportunity to show off their skills at the TIA 2000 international competition on sustainable building for the 21st century, being held in Oxford, UK, from 9 to 12 July 2000.

The competition will form part of the third international conference on sustainable building for the 21st century, which will focus on teaching issues, tools and methodologies for sustainability.

The conference aims to:

- Strengthen the bonds between teachers of building design around the world;
- Exchange teaching tools, issues and methodologies with a view to improving teaching standards in design schools;
- Enable teachers to keep abreast of the latest ideas, literature, software and hardware for teaching;
- Provide a venue for an exhibition with the results of the TIA sustainability design competition for students;
- Set the agenda for better building in the 21st century by improving teaching standards in schools of building design.

TIA 2000 targets an international and interdisciplinary interest group. The event organisers are therefore inviting participation from teachers from all the professions involved in building design, including architects, engineers, builders, surveyors and the building trades.

The event is organised by the School of Architecture, Oxford Brookes University, UK, and the University of Florence, Italy, and is sponsored by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy.
